The Story of MAYAN LIVING REAL ESTATE
Mayan Living Real Estate was founded in 2002 in Merida, Yucatan and today is one of the most respected and successful real estate companies in the area. The company is owned by partners Doug & Teresa Willey and Steve Wallace & Kim Garety.
Doug & Teresa are originally from Laurel, Delaware USA and have been working as real estate agents in Mexico/Latin America for over ten years now. They purchased their first home in Chelem in 2002 from Mayan Living Real Estate. In 2003, they moved to Playa del Carmen/Cozumel where they worked in real estate sales for 4.5 years at one of the largest resort companies in the area. They also spent a year in real estate sales on the island of San Pedro in Belize. Realizing that their heart was in the Yucatan, they returned to their home in Chelem in 2007 and went to work for Mayan Living Real Estate S.A. de C.V. In 2009, they became co-owners of the company. Doug and Teresa bring a vast wealth of real estate knowledge and sales experience to the Mayan Living team.
Steve and Kim are from Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. Travelling to the Yucatan in 2010, they fell in love with the local culture, friendly people, and beautiful beaches of the Yucatan coast! By late 2010, they had purchased their home in Chelem through Mayan Living Real Estate and made Mexico their new home. When the opportunity arose to purchase co-ownership of Mayan Living Real Estate, they jumped at the opportunity to become partners with their friends, and help others realize their dream of life in Mexico. As recent immigrants to the area, Steve and Kim have a unique understanding of the finer details of moving to the area from North of the border, and are happy to share their knowledge and experience to help you make a successful transition to life on the Yucatan Peninsula

POLICIES
- We at Mayan Living Real Estate would be pleased to show you our properties and help you find your new home here on the beautiful Yucatan Gulf Coast or the colonial city of Merida, at no charge to you. We would be happy to pick you up at your Merida or Gulf Coast hotel or rental property, and provide transportation to the listed properties.
- We ask that you give us as much notice as possible of your visit, so we can schedule appointments for the showing of appropriate or desired properties.
- During the property showings, we will provide information and consultation regarding the buying process, and will refer you to a very competent bilingual attorney or accountant for advice regarding property ownership here in the Yucatan.
- Should you choose to purchase a property through Mayan Living Real Estate, our team can provide after care services such as property maintenance or just getting the property ready for your arrival. In addition, we are able to provide pick-up services at the Merida International Airport or bus station and transportation to your rental or new home, for a small charge.

Doug Willey
I was born and raised in Delaware, where I worked as a union millwright/welder and also owned an antique store. My wife Teresa and I moved to Mexico in 2003, and have worked in Real Estate sales on the Yucatan Peninsula for almost 10 years. We love the Yucatan and its' people! While born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, I also lived in Edmonton for 10 years, where I worked in the Music industry. Most recently, I lived in Campbell River, B.C. for 15 years where I owned and operated a Video Production company until 2010, when my wife Kim and I re-located to the Yucatan. Since then, we have purchased and renovated our beach home and joined Mayan Living to assist you in finding your own Mexican dream. Scott Wormwood
While born in New Hampshire, I have lived in Tampa, Miami and New Orleans before moving to Merida in 1991. Here, I worked as a tour guide from the ancient Maya ruins of Palenque in Mexico to Copan in Honduras, and managed hotels in Playa del Carmen and Mahaual. For 4 years, I was the coordinator of an elder hostel program in Izamal and have managed vacation properties in Merida. Today, I work as a re-location specialist to help you make the move to Merida and bring 19 years of Yucatan living experience to help you find your dream home.

Veronica Torres
I was born and raised in Mexico City where I went to law school at Universidad Latinoamericana and worked in the penitentiary system for my school years. In 1994, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the US and worked in the hospitality industry. In 2010, I returned to Mexico where I purchased my home in Chelem though the Mayan Living team. Today, I work with Mayan Living where I want to bring our clients the same great experience I had, in re-locating to this area. I am bilingual in Spanish and English and specialize in after care and property management services.

Gary Nowlan
I was born in Manitoba and raised in Saskatchewan. I attended the University of Regina and have lived and worked in four of Canada's provinces. My background includes more than twenty years of successful sales experience, so after my wife and I bought our home on-line through Mayan Living we recognized that this team lives by their motto: Honesty, Integrity, Reliability, throughout the sales process and with exceptional after sales care. Teresa Willey
Raised in Delaware, I also lived in Florida and Maryland where I worked as a counsellor for abused and displaced homemakers. In 2003, we purchased our first home in Chelem and moved to Mexico, where my counselling skills transferred easily to real estate sales on the Caribbean, allowing me to hear what our customers wanted and to assist them in their home search. Returning to the local Yucatan culture in 2007, Doug and I worked as agents at Mayan Living for 2 years. Realizing this was our niche in life, we became co-owners. Kim Garety Wallace
Raised in Ontario, I moved to B.C. Canada in 1977, where I worked in the salmon fishing industry, and as a restaurant/camp cook. After attending the University of Victoria, I moved to Campbell River, B.C. in 1986, where I worked in the aquaculture industry and as a college instructor. Prior to relocating to the Yucatan with my husband Steve in 2010, I worked with remote First Nation communities in education and as an aquaculture consultant. Today, as co-owner of Mayan Living, I work hard to help you find the best properties and to assist you in your transition to life on the Gulf Coast.
